Chiefs of Staff and Executive Assistants, here are 8 steps to help your CEO rebalance their time towards high priority activities that they actually enjoy doing.

  1. Set up a quarterly meeting for CEO Time Rebalancing

  2. Create two tables, 1 for professional time and 1 for personal time

  3. Identify typical activities in your CEO’s work life, i.e. meetings, strategy, investors

  4. Identify typical activities in your CEO’s personal life, i.e. sleep, gym, family

  5. For each activity, quantify the current CEO time spent in hours per week

  6. For each activity, identify the desired CEO time spent in hours per week

  7. Make an action plan to reduce time spent in an undesired activity, i.e. meetings

  8. Make an action plan to increase time spent in an undesired activity, i.e. strategy

Hint: reference your CEO’s Zone of Genius to figure out where to maximize their time and look to your Zone of Incompetence to decide where to minimize their time.
