Reverse Engineer the Interview Scorecard

Want to ace your Chief of Staff interview? Reverse engineer the interview scorecard. Check out Chapter 2 of the Chief of Staff Playbook here to understand what the typical Chief of Staff Interview Scorecard looks like.

Then ask your recruiter or anyone else on the hiring team what they are looking for in an ideal candidate. Question them on what qualities and experiences are the most important in their future Chief of Staff. Go through each of the scorecard items and gain clarity on which will be weighted the most.

These can include Job Title, Role Deliverables and Long Term Goals. Then comes Tools and Techniques, Experience and Portfolio Examples. Plus Character Traits and Work Style. Career Trajectory, Soft Skills and Culture Fit round out the possible criteria.

Finally, figure out your strengths and weaknesses based on the scorecard. Think like a tennis player - you may be good on clay but not so good on hard court. So prepare your interview answers accordingly.

Go into the interview confident that you know exactly what they are looking for. Show off your best qualities as a stellar Chief of Staff candidate. All because you’ve successfully reverse-engineered the interview scorecard.
